It was in 1994 when Dan Fisher, local Amish man, opened a nutritional supplement store on his farm in Mesopotamia Ohio with the goal of offering the plain and English communities healthier alternatives.
Prior to this, Dan had suffered some serious health issues and through the process of personal research, he uncovered truths about our body’s nutritional needs for nutrients and minerals and a desire to share what he had learned.
In 2005, Heritage Naturals (HN) was opened with the mission of supplying the community with reasonably priced healthy supplements without the focus on personal business gain. “I would rather sell more for less than less for more,” says Fisher. Most days, Dan is available in the store answering questions and coaching customers. “At this new location, we have a table set up where clients can receive information and advice on how to improve their lives and overall health,” says Fisher.
In 2017, HN had outgrown the farm location and relocated to Nauvoo Road in one of the back spaces at Heritage Marketplace where they rebranded and began again to grow slowly. Realizing their type of business needed more visibility, they moved to a larger space closer to the entrance of the Marketplace.
Since then, the shipping business has boomed thereby supplementing store sales.
This past February, after once again outgrowing their location, HN relocated into Middlefield in the retail plaza on Springdale. “We are so grateful to our customers, says Fisher. “We’ve been here just over a month and already the Heritage Naturals store is supporting itself and the shipping business is continuing to expand!”
When it comes to offering the products that will best fit the HN mission, Dan relies on the knowledge of the nation’s foremost wellness coach, guru, mentor and author, Walt Merriman.
To celebrate their success, Heritage Naturals will host a Grand Opening, May 5 & 6. Walt Merriman will be on site both days (Friday evening 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, noon – 3:30 p.m.) Many other vendors with be onsite as well. Attendees will win door prizes, gifts, and … the customer who travels the furthest distance will win a special gift.
As for the future of Heritage Naturals, Dan Fisher is looking forward to training his talented staff to take over the store so that he will be available for speaking engagements around the area.
