On the Move with Heritage Meats

By Kim Breyley

Quality, freshness, and price, these are the features of most importance to the consumer when shopping for meat.

Perry Miller and Dan Schrock know this and built the business of Heritage Meats on these cornerstones. “One thing that we agreed upon from the beginning,” says Perry, “was that we would have good beef – good quality beef – and that also includes our chicken and pork. If we can’t supply it, then we will do without stock, no substitutes of a lesser quality.” Because of this standard, Heritage Meats began a grass-fed beef and the pastured pork program.

It was April 2, 2018, when Heritage Meats first opened their doors in a 5,000 sq. ft. space on Springdale in Middlefield. During Covid, business grew exponentially resulting in an increase more than their two-year projections. “It happened twice,” said Perry. “Over a Friday, Saturday, and Monday, we were wiped out of product. Our business thrived during Covid.”

After five years, they outgrew that first location. Following a year of planning, in January of 2023, they moved into a 9,000 sq. ft. space in Harrington Square. “We love it here,” said Perry. “We added more freezer, more refrigeration, and a new rail system.”

Heritage Meats now has a broad product offering including deli, packaged meats, fish and shrimp, steaks, burgers, ribs, Gerber chicken, a large assortment of seasonings, a new line of bulk foods and organic products supplied by Kauffman Treasures.

“We are bringing in a state-of-the-art smoker,” says Perry. “We will then produce and smoke our own meats such as sausage, beef sticks and jerky.

Heritage Meats’ mission is to serve the community, so one of their core values is fair pricing.

“We do price according to our expenses,” he says. “But we price as low as we can. In the deli, we do not run specials. We bring in fresh every week, just what we need. We don’t buy big lots and try to hold it till the expiration date. And we sample our products before we put it out on the floor.” Ask the team at Heritage about custom cutting, daily delivery and freezer beef and hogs.

Heritage Meats will celebrate the opening of their new location the weekend of May 5 and 6, 2023. Stop and shop at 15561 Kinsman Road, Harrington Square, Middlefield 44062. Call 440-548-1018.
